Nyjer seed is perfect for attracting small, beautiful birds such as Goldfinches, Tits and Redpolls to your garden. Nyger Seeds (also known as Niger Seeds or Thistle Seeds) are high in healthy oils, proteins and fibre, making them an ideal winter food source, and helping our feathered friends pile on the pounds to see them through the cold nights.
The soft Nyger Seed husks are perfect for soft billed birds like Goldfinches, Greenfinches and Thrushes, and when fed using specialised bird feeders only birds with the tiniest of beaks can get to them. This is great if you’re trying to deter larger unwanted birds from feeding in your garden.

Feeding Guide

  • It is important to use a specialised Nyger Seed Bird Feeder, to safely and easily offer these tiny seeds to an array of birds. A good Nyger Seed Bird Feeder will have specifically designed small feeding ports to stop the seeds from falling out and creating a mess, and allow only the smallest beaks to feed.
  • Locate bird feeders at least two metres away from cover, to make the feeder visible, whilst providing a safe place to retreat
  • Place bird feed out in the morning to ensure that birds can replace the energy they have lost overnight
  • Always ensure that clean, fresh water is available for drinking and bathing.
  • It is best to have multiple bird feeding stations in the garden to prevent overcrowding
  • Clean bird feeders, bird tables and drinking areas regularly with mild disinfectant.
  • Keep bird food fresh and dry, removing any wet food to prevent the spread of bacteria and diseases.
